A BSF jawan was injured in an IED blast that occurred ahead of the fence along the India-Pakistan international border in Punjab on Wednesday, April 9. It is the first such instance at this front of usage of this dangerous concoction of explosives and shrapnel used to kill.
The incident took place on the intervening night of April 8-9 near Dorangla village in the Gurdaspur district. The Border Security Force (BSF) has issued an "alert" all along the 553 km of this front in Punjab and suspension of farming around the blast area.
The BSF will take up the matter and issue a strong protest note to their counterparts across the border -- Pakistan Rangers -- once a "technical and forensic" investigation concludes, sources in the force told PTI.
According to ABP News, the troops detected suspected IEDs with a network of concealed wires in the fields, confirming the presence of multiple IEDs. The concealed detonating device of the IEDs got triggered, resulting in a serious leg injury to the BSJ soldier. The remaining IEDs were defused after daybreak, the force said. The incident took place in the jurisdiction of the Dorangla police station.
