In a concerning development, Rajasthan's Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa reportedly received a death threat on Wednesday, according to police sources. The threat was made through a phone call to the police control room, prompting immediate action by Jaipur city police, who have initiated an intensive search operation to investigate the matter.
Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph shared details about the incident, confirming that the threatening call, which came from an unidentified number, included a direct death threat to Bairwa. Upon tracing the number, it was found to be originating from Jaipur Central Jail, leading authorities to alert the jail department. Investigations are underway to identify the caller and ascertain the motive behind the threat.
Prem Chand Bairwa, a prominent BJP leader from Dudu in Jaipur, secured a significant electoral victory in the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly Elections. Bairwa, aged 49, defeated Congress heavyweight Babulal Nagar by a margin of 35,743 votes. As the Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister, Bairwa holds a crucial position in the state government.
His selection as Deputy CM is seen as part of a strategic social engineering move by the BJP. Bairwa, hailing from the Scheduled Caste Bairwa (or Berwa) community, has significant support among the community in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi. The BJP’s calculated political strategy included appointing a Brahmin as Chief Minister, Diya Kumari from a royal family as Deputy CM, and Bairwa as a representative of the Scheduled Caste community, aimed at bolstering the party’s appeal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
