RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: Kolkata Court Finds Sanjoy Roy Guilty; Accused Claims False Implication, Alleges IPS Involvement
A Kolkata court Saturday, January 18, held accused Sanjoy Roy guilty of rape and murder of a junior doctor in RG Kar College and Hospital. While pronouncing the verdict in the case, the court said the quantum of punishment will be announced on Monday (January 20).
The court said BNS Sections 64,66, 103/1 have been framed against the accused. There is a complaint against the accused that he went to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and went to the seminar room, assaulted and murdered the lady doctor taking rest there.
The accused, Roy, in his defence, said that he had been falsely implicated in the case, and those who were involved in the crime were let go. "I have been falsely implicated. I have not done this. Those who have done so are being let go. One IPS involved," accused Sanjay said to the judge.
The case centres around the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate medical trainee doctor on August 9, 2024, whose body was found in a seminar hall of the state-run hospital in Kolkata. Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, was arrested the next day.
