In the video, a student is seen presenting a display featuring two dolls. One doll is dressed in a burqa and placed in a coffin adorned with flowers. The other doll is dressed in a short dress and placed in a coffin filled with depictions of snakes and scorpions. The student then states, "If you wear a burqa, nothing happens to the body after death. But if you wear short clothes, you will go to hell, and snakes and scorpions will eat your body."
The student also references Islamic scripture, making a controversial statement about men and their wives: "A man who allows his wife to roam around the house without a burqa is a dayyus (cuckold)." The remarks have stirred outrage online, with many questioning the appropriateness of such statements in an educational setting. The incident has also sparked debates on whether religious bias is being promoted in schools.
Social media platforms were flooded with reactions, with many users tagging Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and the Director General of Police, demanding immediate action and a thorough investigation into the matter. In response to the incident, the authorities in Chamarajanagar assured the public that a probe was underway.
Rajendra Raje Urs, Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), acknowledged the viral video and confirmed that officials were looking into the issue. He emphasized the need to understand the context of the incident before drawing conclusions, stating, “We need to understand the context first. Once that is clear, I will provide you with full clarity today itself.”The incident has raised critical questions about the content being taught in schools and the responsibility of educational institutions in promoting inclusive, unbiased learning.
