Chennai, Feb 1 The Indian Meteorological Department on Wednesday said that the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry would be lashed with stormy winds, and has also advised fishermen not to venture into the seas.

The fishermen were warned not to venture into the Gulf of Mannar, southwest Bay of Bengal, Camorin area off the Sri Lankan coast till February 2 as the sea could be rough to very rough.

The IMD, in a tweet, on Wednesday said: "Depression over Southwest BoB lay centered at 0530 IST over the same region about 160 km east - southeast of Trincomalee and 420 km southeast of Karaikkal".

It also said that light to moderate rainfall was likely over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on February 1 and 2nd.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in a statement said that a stormy wind with speed of 45-55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, would be seen on February 1 and on February 2, a squally wind with speed reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60kmph will be seen.

It also that isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over south Tamil Nadu on February 1 and 2.
