Suchana Seth, Facing Trial for Killing Her Child, Now Accused of Assaulting Constable in Jail

Accused of killing her four-year-old son in a Goa hotel last year, Suchana Seth, the CEO of a digital consultancy based in Bengaluru, was charged on April 8 with assaulting a constable in Goa's central jail, according to police. Police said the incident happened on April 7 at the women's block office in Colvale's central jail. Seth, a jail inmate awaiting trial, "took the inward register of the ladies' prisoner block without permission. She "abused the complainant with filthy words and further pushed and assaulted her with kicks and pulled her hair, thereby causing her bodily injuries" while she was being questioned, according to the FIR.

Sections 121 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from performing duty) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of BNS were used to lodge the FIR at the Colvale police station.

Seth and her son had checked into the Hotel Sol Banyan Grande in Candolim, North Goa, on January 6, 2024. Due to "urgent work" in Bengaluru, she informed the hotel staff on the night of January 7 that she wanted to check out, ending her stay early even though she had reserved a room until January 10.  Seth persisted in wanting to travel by taxi solely, even though the staff advised that she take a flight since it would be less expensive. Early in January, she departed for Bengaluru.

The flat staff quickly notified the Calangute Police after finding bloodstains on a towel when they went in to clean the room. Suspicions were raised by the fact that Seth was carrying an abnormally heavy suitcase and that her son was not present when she checked out.

Suchana said that the blood was there due to her periods and that her child was with her friend in Margao town, South Goa, when the police asked her about the bloodstains and her "missing son."

Police then discovered that the Margao address was fraudulent. The cab driver who drove Seth to Chitradurga was asked by the police to take her to the closest police station.

She was arrested the following day in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka for reportedly attempting to escape in a taxi with her son's dead body in a bag. The Goa Police chargesheet from last year states that the four-year-old boy's death was due to "shock and respiratory asphyxia" brought on by "strangulation." Police claim that during a custody dispute with her divorced husband, Seth killed her son.
