The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a post about the extradition of the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana is happening today. He is expected to land in Delhi. A special flight carrying Rana departed from the US after he exhausted all legal avenues to stop his extradition. After he lands in India, he will be officially arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). In its social media post, the BJP stated that this is a big diplomatic win for India and that there is no mercy for terrorists in the New India.

Taking to X, the BJP posted, ‘In New India, there is no mercy for terrorists. Anyone who dares to harm or threaten India will be dealt with an iron fist.”

Tahawwur Rana is being charged with criminal conspiracy, waging war against the government of India, murder, and forgery. He hails from Pakistan but has a Canadian citizenship and was based in Chicago. He played a key role in the attacks that took 157 lives and left many injured.

After being turned over to Indian officials in Los Angeles, his name was struck from the custody records of the US Federal Bureau of Prisons, and his status was changed to "Not in BOP custody as of 04/08/2025." The handover was organised by a committed Indian team that included representatives from spy agencies based in the US and the National Investigation Agency. Before the team left for Delhi on April 9, DIG (NIA) Jaya Roy approved the surrender warrant. It is anticipated that Rana will be housed at Tihar Jail under strict security. A multi-agency team consisting of NIA officials, criminology-focused psychologists, and investigators from two intelligence organisations will question him.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks accused will finally be arrested in India and will be punished as per Indian law. He also slammed Congress for not taking action when Mumbai was attacked under its rule. Piyush Goyal said, "During the Congress government, terrorists attacked this very hotel (Taj Palace) where we are present. People died here. But Congress did not do anything to punish the terrorists... It was PM Narendra Modi's resolve to ensure that people who harm our country are severely punished... The accused of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks will finally be punished in India as per our laws... Shiv Sena UBT and Sanjay Raut are more involved in appeasement than the Congress..."
