Twitter abuzz after US air strike kills Iranian General

Reacting to the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, head of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, in a US air strike, Twitterati went into an overdrive, with users praising US president Donald Trump as well as posting funny comments and memes.

Pentagon confirmed that an air strike following directions from Trump, killed Soleimani near the Baghdad airport in Iraq.

#Trump trended with 2.12 million tweets and #Iran with 2.02 million tweets.

Trump posted a picture of the US national flag on @realDonaldTrump which got 86.3K retweets and 346.8K likes.

President Trump's retweet of the @realDonaldTrump tweet garnered 86.4K retweets and 347.2K likes.

One supporter replied to @realDonaldTrump: "We love you, President Trump! Thank you for standing up for us and ours!!!"

"Leadership when it counts! President Trump loves America!" said another supporter.

Others were clearly not amused. One user wrote: "Starting a war to win elections? Elitists are glad it's not their children being sent to fight their battles."

A tweet read: "It's only been the second day of the year what the f*** is going on? Why!!!!!!!!"

One user remarked" "Is this a war or distraction or a bunch of chaos."

A user posted" "Funny. I don't feel so protected right now...."

"I mean if you're American like I am, then we're going to be fine, we always are. But if you're from anywhere else... Oh no," read one tweet.

One Trump supporter tweeted: "If there's a war I fully expect Trump's armed-to-the-teeth supporters to sign up and teach those Iran what the good ol' US of A can do." "Anybody thinking this is the distraction Trump was planning? People will die because of this monster!" commented one Twitter user.

One user said: "The fall of the Roman Empire happened because they thought they were too big to fail, that they were so powerful and so advanced that no one would turn on them... until everyone turned on them."

"Those who sow the wind will reap the whirlwind," read another post.
