A series of shocking murders linked to extramarital affairs has raised concerns across the country. The latest case has surfaced from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district, where a woman allegedly hired a contract killer with the help of her lover to murder her husband just days after their wedding.
Murder Conspiracy Unfolds
According to police, Dilip Yadav, a resident of Mainpuri, married Pragati Yadav from Auraiya on March 5, 2025. However, just two weeks into their marriage, Pragati and her lover, Anurag Yadav, plotted Dilip’s murder.
Pragati had been in a relationship with Anurag, a young man from her village, for several years. Her family, unaware of their relationship, arranged her marriage with Dilip due to an existing family connection. Pragati’s elder sister, Parul, had married Dilip’s elder brother, Sanjay, in 2019. The families wanted Pragati and Dilip to marry as well, but Pragati remained in love with Anurag.
Forced into the marriage, Pragati chose a criminal path to reunite with Anurag.
Victim Found Critically Injured in a Field
Superintendent of Police Abhijeet Shankar said that on March 19, 2025, police received information about a man lying severely injured in a field in the Sahar police station area of Auraiya district. Officers rushed him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on March 22.
Dilip’s family was devastated upon hearing the news. His brother later filed a complaint at the Sahar police station against unidentified individuals, leading to a murder investigation.
Investigation and Arrests
During "Operation Trinetra," police examined CCTV footage and found a crucial lead. The video showed some individuals transporting Dilip on a motorcycle. Acting on intelligence, police identified and arrested a suspect named Ramji Nagar on March 24, 2025.
During questioning, he confessed to the crime and revealed Pragati and Anurag’s involvement. According to Ramji, the couple paid him ₹2 lakh to carry out the murder.
Ongoing Probe
Authorities arrested all three accused — Pragati, Anurag, and Ramji — and presented them before a local court. However, police believe others may be involved, and the investigation continues.
Chilling Similarity to Meerut Murder Case
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh is still reeling from the gruesome murder of Saurabh in Meerut, where his wife, Muskan, and her lover, Sahil, allegedly slit his throat before chopping his body into pieces. They reportedly stored the remains in a cement-filled drum to conceal the crime. Both suspects were arrested, and court proceedings are ongoing.
