Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh (March 11, 2025): Uttarakhand Police launched a major crackdown on drug traffickers in Fatehganj Pashchimi and Agras village early Monday. According to reports, the operation was led by Udham Singh Nagar SSP Manikant Mishra, with a convoy of 70 vehicles and a team of 300 police personnel. The raid covered three areas and included SP Crime Niharika Tomar, SP City Rudrapur, SP Kashipur, and several circle officers. However, no drugs were recovered during the search.

According to reports, police detained 16 people and took them to Uttarakhand for questioning. After verification, 15 were released as they had no connection to drug trafficking. One person, Asif Hussain, was found involved in a case under the NDPS Act at Pul Bhatta police station. He was taken into custody and sent to jail.

Allegations of Misconduct
Local residents accused the police of misconduct during the raid. They alleged that officers entered homes, vandalized property, misbehaved with women, and removed CCTV cameras. Police also took away DVRs, raising concerns about missing evidence. Families of the detained individuals struggled throughout the day to secure their release. By evening, when 15 were freed, their relatives felt some relief and filed complaints against the police.

Man Jumps from Roof to Escape
In an attempt to evade arrest, a man named Monis jumped from a rooftop, fracturing his leg. Monis is reportedly a relative of a major drug smuggler. His family admitted him to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. The incident has sparked fear and anger in the area.

Official Response
Both Uttarakhand and Bareilly SSPs defended the operation. Udham Singh Nagar SSP Manikant Mishra reportedly said that evidence linked the suspects to drug networks across North India and that more traffickers had been identified. He assured strict action would follow.

Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya confirmed that Uttarakhand Police detained 16 people from Fatehganj Paschimi but found no drugs at their homes. After investigation, 15 were released while one was booked.

The sudden midnight operation has left residents of Fatehganj Paschimi and Agras village in fear and outrage. Many questioned the police action, alleging innocent people were targeted. Bareilly SSP has sent a detailed report of the incident to the state administration.
