At least six were killed, and five others were seriously injured in an accident that took place near Mirzamurad district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, February 21. The travellers belonged to Karnataka and were going to Prayagraj to attend Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 when the jeep they were travelling in collided with a parked truck on GT road.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Mirzamurad police station Ajay Raj Verma said the devotees hailed from Karnataka. Police reached the spot, and the injured were shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment. The injured have been identified as Khushi (10), Kavita (48), Shiv Sai (15), Ganesh (14), Sulochana (50), Anita (50) and Sujata (32), all residents of Namopadi (Vidur) in Karnataka.
The deceased have been identified as Santosh Kumar (50) and his wife Sunita (45), Lakshmi (49) and Neelam alias Lalvati (55). The police removed the cruiser jeep with the help of a crane and restored the traffic.
Verma said the collision was so strong that the front part of the vehicle was completely damaged and the police had a tough time pulling out the trapped people. He said the injured have been admitted to the trauma centre of the Banaras Hindu University Hospital. The SHO said the bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem and the Karnataka police has been informed.
