However, now the case that has come to light in this case is likely to take a different turn. The police have also been shocked after the Instagram chat in this case came to light.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken note of the alleged gang-rape case in Varanasi and directed authorities to take strict action. Following his instructions, the Varanasi Police Commissioner has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. However, no arrests have been made yet, as the police await the SIT's findings. The case has taken a new turn after a large number of relatives of the accused youths gathered at the Police Commissioner’s office on Thursday. The parents of the accused presented several videos and Instagram chats that reportedly show the victim in a different light. In one of the videos, dated March 31, the girl is seen outside a restaurant with three of the accused, while the fourth is seen recording the video.
According to the FIR, the girl alleged that she was gang-raped by 23 youths between March 29 and April 4. She also accused them of kidnapping and drugging her. However, the evidence submitted by the families of the accused such as social media interactions and videos has cast doubt on parts of her testimony.
The girl is shown walking voluntarily with the accused in the footage, and chats reveal she was in contact with one of the boys and had discussed meeting him around the alleged time of the incident. Some parents have further alleged that the girl accepted money from certain individuals and deliberately excluded their names from the FIR. These revelations have raised questions about whether the case involves elements of blackmail.
In light of the new developments, the Police Commissioner has reiterated that a thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted. The SIT includes senior officers and will examine all aspects of the case before any arrests are made.
