New Delhi, July 17 A national level Judo player, who is a close associate of wanted gangster Kapil Sangwan, has been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell. He was wanted in half a dozen cases of extortion, attempt to murder, Arms Act and MCOCA. He also carried a reward of one lakh on his head.

Delhi Police Special Cell, which was on the lookout for wanted criminals like Kapil Sangwan, had received information about Vipin alias Judo.

On July 8, the team received a tip-off regarding the movements of Vipin. Immediately, a team was constituted which laid down a strategic trap near Khanpur in South Delhi.

Vipin was spotted there but somehow he sensed the presence of the police party and fled from the spot in his car. The police also followed him using technical surveillance and information received through reliable sources.

Vipin was next spotted near Bhairon Marg in Pragati Maidan area from where he was finally nabbed. The police recovered one illegal pistol and two live cartridges from his possession.

Vipin was born in 1997 at his native place in Mahendergarh in Narnaul, Haryana, where he studied up to Class XII. He joined judo classes in Najafgarh area.

"He has participated in national level judo competitions. In 2013, he came in contact with Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu and Gulshan as they also used to work-out in the same gym in Najafgarh. Impressed with their rash acts, he decided to join them. Vipin along with his associates had fired at a house in Khaira Village, Najafgarh," said Sanjeev Yadav, DCP, Special Cell.
