Waqf Amendment Bill was passed by parliament last week and on Tuesday president give nod to the bill. A fresh tension has erupted in Bengal's Murshidabad protesting against the act. Amid this Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday stated that Waqf (Amendment) Act will not be implemented in the state. She said this while addressing a program of the Jain community in Kolkata, Banerjee said she will protect the minority people and their property.
I know you are aggrieved because of the enactment of the Waqf Act. Have faith, nothing will happen in Bengal by which one can divide and rule. You send out a message that all have to stay together," she said. Ignore, people will provoke you to assemble and launch movement, I will appeal to all of you not to do it. Please remember that didi will proctect you and your property, Mamata added.

While talking to Muslim community during the gathering for Eid-Al-Fitur celebration she said, "Eid is a celebration of happiness for all of you. Every festival belongs to everyone, and no one should feel alone—we are with you. Do not think that you must follow any restrictions imposed by others. There are those who seek to divide and rule, but we stand for you, for every religion, and for every family..."
Banerjee criticized the BJP, questioning if their alleged issues with minorities would lead to constitutional changes. She reiterated her commitment to religious respect and condemned the BJP's "divisive politics" as "jumla politics," stating her inclusive identity as Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and Indian, defying their attempts to divide and rule.
