The Congress party expelled the accused driver, Usman Khan, from his position as District Vice President of Jaipur City (Rajasthan) on Tuesday, April 8. The 62-year-old factory owner allegedly drove his SUV at high speed under the influence of alcohol and hit pedestrians, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to six others. After the accident, he fled the scene in his car, but some locals chased him down and handed him over to the police. The accident occurred on Monday night on the busy MI Road. He is currently in police custody for further investigation into the hit-and-run case.
The accused, identified as Usman Khan, operates a manufacturing unit in the same area. He is a resident of Rana Colony in Shastri Nagar. He first hit a scooter near the Santosh Mata Temple and, failing to stop, went on to strike pedestrians and other vehicles near the police station. His vehicle was eventually stopped by locals in a narrow lane.
"The accused, Usman, has been arrested. He was in an inebriated state. Three people died and six were injured in the incident. Of the six injured, three have been discharged while the remaining three are hospitalised and in stable condition. The accused's car has been recovered. Further investigation is underway. The accused deals in medical equipment, and the car belonged to his company," said DCP Bajrang Singh Shekhawat.
Who Is Usman Khan?
Usman Khan is a factory owner who manufactures iron beds in the Vishwakarma Industrial Area. He was also the Jaipur City District Vice President of the Congress party. However, following widespread protests by locals over the accident, he was expelled from the District Executive with immediate effect.
Usman was detained in an inebriated state, and an FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by the father of the deceased victim, Mamata Kanwar.
