Navi Mumbai: The Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial at Sector 15, Airoli—built by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC)—has drawn more than 3.5 lakh visitors since its inauguration in December 2021. Widely hailed as one of the most distinctive knowledge-centric memorials in India, it continues to attract scholars, families, and international guests alike.
Unlike traditional statue-based monuments, this memorial is a vibrant intellectual space reflecting Dr. Ambedkar’s belief that “Knowledge is Power.” It houses a modern e-library, over 5,000 books, a photo gallery of his life, and a unique holographic setup that virtually presents his historic speeches.
A 50-meter-high dome, shaped like a pen nib, and a striking sculpture of a hand holding a pen symbolize the essence of Babasaheb’s message—education as the ultimate tool of empowerment. The state-of-the-art facility also includes a 200-seat meditation hall, a Constitution literature gallery, and a 250-seat air-conditioned auditorium.
Since opening on the eve of Mahaparinirvan Diwas in 2021, the memorial has become a hub for dialogue and learning. The ongoing “Vicharvedh” lecture series and the annual “Jagar” events have featured esteemed speakers such as Dr. Narendra Jadhav, Dr. Bhalchandra Mungekar, Shri Nagraj Manjule, and many more. In 2025, notable figures like Prof. Pravin Davane, Dr. Harish Wankhede, and Mrs. Chhaya Kadam addressed packed audiences, with live telecasts arranged for overflow crowds—busting the myth that public interest in reading and lectures is fading.
On important days like Ambedkar Jayanti, Constitution Day, and Buddha Purnima, daily visitor numbers soar to 7,000–8,000. Even on regular weekends, over 300 people visit, including large student groups and families eager to engage with Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring legacy.
In anticipation of large footfalls this Ambedkar Jayanti, NMMC has made special arrangements under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. Citizens are warmly invited to experience the memorial and pay their intellectual tribute to Babasaheb.
