Gautam Adani, the Chairperson of the Adani Group, recently visited the site of the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIAL) and shared a glimpse of what promises to be a game-changing addition to India's aviation infrastructure. In a post on social media, Adani described the airport, set for inauguration in June, as a "true gift to India," adding that it will "redefine connectivity and growth."
The industrialist expressed his pride in the progress of the project, sharing a short video highlighting the airport’s construction. "A glimpse into India's aviation future! Visited the Navi Mumbai International Airport site today—a world-class airport taking shape," Adani wrote, acknowledging the hard work of the teams behind the venture. "Kudos to the Adani Airports team and partners for making this vision a reality."
The Navi Mumbai International Airport is on track to become a key gateway for both domestic and international travelers. In December 2024, NMIAL successfully conducted its first commercial validation flight, marking a significant milestone for the airport's operations. The IndiGo Airlines A320 flight, witnessed by officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), demonstrated the airport's readiness and alignment with global aviation standards.
In addition to the successful flight validation, the airport had earlier conducted flight calibration for its Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI). These steps were crucial in preparing for the airport's operational launch and subsequent arrival of commercial flights.
NMIAL is jointly owned by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) with a 74% shareholding, and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) with a 26% stake. Upon full operation, the airport will have the capacity to handle over 90 million passengers annually (MPPA). In its initial phase, the airport will accommodate 20 MPPA of passenger traffic and handle 800,000 tonnes of cargo per year.
