Panvel: In a major relief for parents, the Maharashtra government has resolved the issue of residential address verification for the RTE (Right to Education) 25% quota admissions for the academic year 2025-26. The demand raised by Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur to School Education Minister Dadasaheb Bhuse has been successfully addressed, ensuring smoother admissions for students.

Parents had faced difficulties due to the new requirement that rental agreements be registered with the Sub-Registrar before the admission process began. This created confusion, as the admission process started in January 2025, the same month the rule was announced. Even if parents registered their agreements, they were not considered valid, leading to widespread concerns.

To resolve the issue, MLA Prashant Thakur met Minister Bhuse and urged the government to accept notarized rental agreements or allow additional documents such as Aadhaar cards, ration cards, nationalized bank passbooks, driving license, passports, and other proofs of residence. Following this appeal, the Directorate of Primary Education issued an order on February 27, approving various documents as valid proof of residence.

Now, documents such as ration cards, electricity bills, telephone bills, property tax receipts, voter ID, passports, Aadhaar card, and bank passbooks will be accepted, easing the process for thousands of students in Panvel taluka. Parents have expressed gratitude towards MLA Prashant Thakur and Minister Dadasaheb Bhuse for their swift action in ensuring students’ right to education under RTE.
