Navi Mumbai: An impressive 1.5 tons of waste—mainly plastic bottles and dry garbage—was cleared overnight by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) following the high-profile Legends El Clasico football match held at D.Y. Patil Stadium on Sunday. The swift and organized cleanup left early morning walkers pleasantly surprised by the spotless surroundings.
With thousands of fans attending the event, the civic body had anticipated a large volume of post-match litter. Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, the Solid Waste Management Department executed a well-coordinated operation that ran from 11 PM until 3 AM.
The clean-up was overseen by Additional Commissioner Mr. Sunil Pawar and managed on-ground by Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ajay Gadade. A dedicated team of over 40 sanitation workers, including sanitation officers, supervisors, waste transport managers, and cleanliness ambassadors, worked tirelessly to restore cleanliness around the stadium.
Key contributors included Arun Patil (Sanitation Officer, Nerul), Inspectors Milind Ambekar, Navnath Thombre, and Bhushan Sutar, all of whom coordinated with support teams to ensure the prompt removal and transportation of garbage to the waste processing facility.
Senior officials Mr. Somnath Potre (Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner) and Jayant Jawdekar (Assistant Commissioner, Nerul Division) also played a role in the operation.
Citizens expressed their satisfaction with the municipal body's efficiency, praising NMMC for setting a high standard in post-event cleanliness and public sanitation management.
