Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has warned of auctioning seized properties of tax defaulters starting April 2025. A total of 454 property owners across eight civic wards have been issued notices, asking them to clear their outstanding dues immediately.
Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde has warned that failure to pay overdue property taxes will result in the auctioning of seized properties. The municipal body has initiated appointing government-approved valuers to assess the properties before the auction.
As per the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, property tax defaulters face legal action under Section 128 and Rules 42 to 48, which permit property seizure and subsequent sale via auction.
In a bid to provide relief to defaulters, NMMC has introduced the "Abhay Yojana" (Amnesty Scheme) from March 10, 2025, offering a 50% waiver on penalty charges for overdue taxes. The scheme will be available until March 31, 2025. To facilitate payments, tax counters at the NMMC headquarters and divisional offices will remain open on weekends from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The civic body has urged to residents to take advantage of the Abhay Yojana and clear their dues to avoid property seizure and auction.
