Navi Mumbai: CIDCO has intensified its action against debris mafias illegally dumping construction waste in its jurisdiction via the Atal Setu route from Mumbai. As a result, cases have been registered against 12 dumper drivers at two different police stations, and several dumpers filled with debris have been seized. This operation has sent shockwaves through the illegal debris disposal network.
For months, debris-laden trucks have been illegally entering Navi Mumbai and dumping waste in areas like Ulwe. Following a surge in complaints, CIDCO has ramped up its crackdown, leading to the seizure of multiple dumpers over the past year. On Saturday, CIDCO’s flying squad intercepted eight dumpers carrying debris towards Ulwe via the Atal Setu route.
The dumpers were allegedly set to offload waste in Ulwe. Acting swiftly, CIDCO officials seized the vehicles, registering cases against eight drivers at the Nhava Sheva police station. In another case, four dumpers entering Ulwe Node from Mumbai were seized, and their drivers were booked at Ulwe police station.
CIDCO’s Chief Vigilance Officer, Suresh Mengde, has confirmed that the crackdown on illegal debris transportation and disposal will be further intensified. Investigations indicate that the Atal Setu has made it easier for debris mafias to transport and illegally dispose of Mumbai’s construction waste in Navi Mumbai.
