Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will present its budget for the financial year 2025-26 on Tuesday, February 25. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde will announce the budget at 11:30 AM at the NMMC headquarters.
The budget is crucial for Navi Mumbai residents as it will outline the civic body’s plans and priorities for infrastructure, public services, and development projects in the upcoming fiscal year.
With no elected representatives in the corporation, the administration will present the budget independently. However, it did seek suggestions from citizens during the preparation process. Many residents have called for greater transparency and accountability, urging the administration to curb unnecessary civic works. Concerns have been raised about repeated road repairs and frequent digging, even on well-maintained roads.
As a large number of old and dilapidated buildings undergo redevelopment, there is growing demand for improved infrastructure and water supply. Additionally, with the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) set to commence operations in April 2025, the city is expected to witness increased footfall and vehicular movement. Meeting these rising demands will pose a significant challenge for the civic body.
Last year, the civic administration presented a Rs 4,950 crore budget for 2024-25, maintaining tax rates while focusing on public welfare and civic development. The NMMC expects to generate Rs1,626 crore from Goods and Services Tax (GST), Rs900 crore from property tax, Rs 244 crore in government grants, Rs 104 crore from water cess, and Rs 90 crore from registration income and permits.
For the upcoming fiscal year, the budget will allocate Rs 954 crore for civic amenities, Rs865 crore for administrative services, Rs 521 crore for water supply and sanitation, Rs 432 crore for solid waste management, Rs216 crore for health services, Rs250 crore for transport, and Rs 180 crore for education.
