The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has officially commenced operations of its own Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science, after securing approvals from the National Medical Commission (NMC) and various state and central government authorities. The institute has enrolled 22 students across five medical specialties, marking a significant step in postgraduate medical education at NMMC’s Nerul and Vashi hospitals.

The National Medical Commission has granted 22 seats in five disciplines: Medicine, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Surgery. The admission process for all seats has been completed, and the academic session for 2024-25 has begun at Maasaheb Minatai Thackeray Hospital in Nerul and the Public Hospital in Vashi. This development enhances medical training opportunities while ensuring that highly trained doctors contribute to patient care in municipal hospitals.

Further strengthening its medical education initiatives, NMMC has also secured DNB (Diplomate of National Board) accreditation for Gynecology and Pediatrics at Rajmata Jijau Hospital in Airoli, where four students have been admitted for the current academic year.

To establish the postgraduate institute, NMMC has provided state-of-the-art infrastructure, medical facilities, and staff, including deans, professors, assistant professors, and other essential personnel at its hospitals in Vashi and Nerul. The initiative ensures that MBBS doctors can pursue higher education within the municipal hospital system while also enhancing specialist medical care for patients.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde stated that the launch of this institute will strengthen NMMC’s healthcare services and provide high-quality treatment to Navi Mumbai residents. He emphasized that the presence of postgraduate medical students will not only improve patient care but also elevate the overall medical standards of municipal hospitals.
