NMMC’s Innovative Projects Receive National Recognition at SKOCH Summit
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has been recognised at the national level for its outstanding governance, receiving two prestigious SKOCH Awards for the successful implementation of the ‘Efficient and Sustainable Water Management System’ and ‘Cancer Care Initiative’. These awards were presented at the 100th SKOCH Summit in New Delhi, a moment of great pride for the city and its residents.
The SKOCH Awards are among the most respected honors in India, given to individuals and institutions contributing to the country’s development. The selection process is known for its transparency and rigor, involving expert evaluations, independent reviews, and a public voting mechanism. Navi Mumbai’s two projects successfully passed these assessments, securing their place among the top initiatives in the country.

NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, who accepted the awards, stated that Navi Mumbai, as a planned city, has been focusing on efficient water management to ensure sustainability. He highlighted that 85% of water connections in the city are metered, which enables better monitoring and conservation. Additionally, advanced tertiary treatment plants have been put into operation, ensuring that 50 million liters per day of recycled water is supplied to industries, reducing the burden on potable water sources. He also noted that 96% of water bill payments are collected efficiently, demonstrating the corporation’s effective financial management. He further added that alongside water conservation, environmental protection and sustainability remain top priorities for the municipal administration.

The second project, the ‘Cancer Care Initiative,’ addresses the growing health challenges posed by cancer, especially among women. Under this initiative, 26 municipal health centers and hospitals are conducting cancer screenings at the primary level. If any suspected cases are detected, patients are referred to the Tata Memorial Hospital for further treatment under a special agreement. So far, over 10,000 women have undergone screening, and five confirmed cases have been referred for advanced medical care. Additionally, recognizing the financial challenges faced by cancer patients, the municipal hospital in Nerul has introduced a dedicated chemotherapy ward, ensuring that no patient is deprived of treatment due to a lack of financial resources.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Shinde acknowledged the support of Navi Mumbai’s citizens, public representatives, institutions, and media, who have consistently contributed to the city’s progress. He reiterated that NMMC remains committed to innovative governance and that these two SKOCH Awards are a testament to the corporation’s dedication to improving public services.
