Encroachment Drive: NMMC Removes Illegal Constructions in Sector 10

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its efforts against unauthorised constructions in the city, following directives from the Bombay High Court. On Wednesday, the Encroachment Department carried out a major demolition drive in Nerul ward.

A ground plus four storey under construction was demolished in sector 10 in Nerul.

Earlier, during the inspection, civic officials discovered unauthorised ground-plus-four RCC constructions measuring approximately 3.50m x 7.20m. Notices under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, were issued by the Nerul Ward Office to the contractor on December 10, 2024. Despite the notice period expiring, the structures were not voluntarily removed.

The illegal constructions were linked to Shrimant Hajare and Gangaram Deshmukh, residents of Sector 10, who continued building despite receiving warnings. After the compliance deadline passed, the NMMC proceeded with the demolition.

The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner Jayant Jawadekar, with support from the encroachment department staff, 10 laborers, two gas cutters, six breakers, and a security team that included local police personnel.

The NMMC has emphasised that such anti-encroachment actions will be conducted more frequently to curb unauthorized developments in the city.
