In a decisive move against illegal construction, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) demolished a ground plus one-storey building in the Airoli ward on Monday. The action was taken after the concerned individual failed to comply with official notices issued by the Encroachment Department.
The unauthorized structure, located at Sector 4, Airoli, was reportedly constructed by H M Surve without obtaining the mandatory permissions from NMMC. A formal notice had earlier been served under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. Despite being instructed to remove the illegal structure voluntarily, no steps were taken by the owner, prompting the municipal body to initiate enforcement.
The operation was conducted under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and guided by Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Bhagwat Doifode. The encroachment team successfully carried out a partial demolition of the illegal construction.
The demolition squad was led by Airoli ward Assistant Commissioner Sunil Kathole, with support from Junior Engineer Sandeep Mhatre, local staff, and the encroachment police team. Meanwhile, municipal officials have stated that such drives will be intensified in the coming days to curb unauthorized developments across the city.
