NMMC seized128 properties and recovered Rs 7.48 crore from 30 property tax defaulters

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken stringent action against property tax defaulters, seizing 128 properties and recovering Rs 7.48 crore from 30 defaulters who cleared their dues after receiving notices. Property tax is the primary source of revenue for NMMC, funding various civic amenities, and the administration is intensifying efforts to ensure timely tax collection.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has been closely monitoring the crackdown on defaulters. As part of this drive, major tax defaulters who ignored repeated notices faced property seizures. Among them, three defaulters from Ameya Co-operative Housing Society had their properties sealed after failing to respond to tax payment notices.

Crackdown on Large Defaulters

NMMC had identified 8,000 major defaulters who owed more than Rs1 lakh in property tax. They were given a seven-day deadline to settle their dues. However, 128 property owners failed to comply, leading to the seizure of their properties, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of the Property Tax Department, Mr. Sharad Pawar.

NMMC to Disconnect Water Supply Disconnection and Auctions Properties

Following this action, NMMC is now preparing to disconnect water connections of housing societies that continue to default on tax payments. Additionally, if defaulters do not clear their dues even after the property seizure, the municipal corporation will auction off their properties.

Appeal to Property Owners

Dr. Kailas Shinde has urged all property owners to pay their taxes on time and clear any outstanding dues to contribute to the city’s development. “Property tax funds essential civic services, and responsible taxpayers play a vital role in maintaining and improving Navi Mumbai’s infrastructure,” he stated.

The crackdown is expected to encourage timely tax payments and ensure financial stability for NMMC’s urban development projects.
