Navi Mumbai RTO Focuses on Student Safety with Special Vehicle Inspections

Navi Mumbai: In a concerted effort to enhance the safety of schoolchildren, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has been actively inspecting vehicles used for student transportation. Between April and December 2024, the RTO conducted thorough checks on 675 vehicles, identifying 80 with safety violations. As a result, fines amounting to Rs 5.6 lakh have been imposed on the errant vehicles.

Navi Mumbai, home to numerous private schools, has a fleet of 1,174 school buses and vans registered with the RTO, all responsible for transporting students across the city. Despite these registered vehicles, concerns persist about the illegal transportation of students, prompting the RTO to intensify its scrutiny.

To address these issues, the RTO has prioritized student safety, focusing on ensuring compliance with traffic regulations. Special awareness camps are being organized for drivers to emphasize the importance of safe travel. Additionally, the RTO continues its crackdown on vehicles that flout safety norms, reinforcing its commitment to protecting the city’s students.
