As temperatures soar across Navi Mumbai, residents of Ghansoli are grappling with frequent power outages that are disrupting daily life and dampening festive occasions. The latest incident occurred on Shri Ram Navami, when a prolonged electricity failure left hundreds without power for over four hours. Locals blame repeated faults in underground cables, transformers, and DP boxes, and say the issue has gone from occasional to routine.
According to residents, the power supply in Ghansoli village was interrupted from 8:30 am to 1 pm— four and a half hours — leaving thousands of residents to suffer in the scorching summer heat. The outage dampened festive spirits as devotional singers and kirtankars (religious performers), who had gathered for the occasion, were forced to perform without electricity. Residents expressed anger and disappointment, accusing the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) of negligence.

The root cause of the outage was traced to a spark in the main underground power cable near the NOCIL junction, close to Talvali village. This cable connects to a key substation supplying electricity to Ghansoli and its surrounding areas. Technical teams from MSEDCL worked for over four hours to restore the supply, which resumed around 1 PM.
“The issue was caused due to a spark in the main cable. Our team completed the necessary repairs and resumed supply as quickly as possible,” said Sunil Sarvade, Assistant Engineer, MSEDCL, Ghansoli.
Despite the restoration, locals demand a permanent solution to the recurring power problems. They allege that MSEDCL has been ignoring complaints for months, resulting in repeated night-time blackouts that affect daily life and security.
As temperatures continue to rise, residents hope that the authorities will take immediate steps to strengthen the local power infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted supply during the peak summer season.
