Plan Ahead: Sion-Panvel Highway Shut for Maintenance on March 6
Navi Mumbai – The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have announced a complete seven-hour closure of the Sion-Panvel Highway between Sanpada Bridge and Turbhe Bridge on March 6, 2025. The restriction is necessary to facilitate repair work on the Sanpada Pedestrian Bridge.
The Public Works Department will carry out the repairs on March 6, 2025, from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM. To prevent congestion and ensure public convenience, the highway will remain fully closed between Sanpada Bridge and Turbhe Bridge during this period.
The Sanpada Pedestrian Foot Over Bridge (FOB) on the Sion-Panvel Special State Highway sustained severe damage on February 8, 2025, between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM, due to a collision with a dumper. As a result, the steel structure and railings have bent, and some sections have broken.
Pedestrian access to the bridge has been temporarily suspended; however, until complete repairs are carried out, it will pose a safety risk to the public. In light of the damages, repair work is scheduled to commence.
Alternative Route:
Vehicles traveling from Mumbai should take a left turn after Vashi Bridge and proceed via Palm Beach Road – Moraj Killa Junction to reach their destination.
The restrictions do not apply to police vehicles, fire brigades, ambulances, government vehicles, and other essential services. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly.
