The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) innovative water management initiatives— including its water distribution system, Dutch-style holding ponds, and the supply of treated wastewater to industries—were praised at the 2nd All India State Water Ministers Conference 2025, India @2047: A Water Secure Nation, held in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde delivered an impactful presentation on the city’s efficient water distribution system and holding pond utilisation.

Invited as a special speaker, Dr. Shinde highlighted Navi Mumbai’s sustainable water management practices in the presence of the Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, state water ministers, and senior government officials. He explained how NMMC’s ownership of Morbe Dam ensures water self-sufficiency and how advanced SCADA technology optimizes water distribution. He also introduced NMMC’s 24x7 water supply pilot project in Belapur and the e-governance integration in water management.

Dr. Shinde further emphasized NMMC’s wastewater treatment initiatives, which recycle and supply treated water for industrial use, gardens, construction sites, and even NMMT bus cleaning, helping conserve potable water. He also detailed the Dutch-style holding ponds developed by CIDCO, which are crucial for flood prevention during monsoons. A short documentary showcasing this innovative approach was also presented.

The national-level recognition of Navi Mumbai’s water conservation and flood management strategies is a proud moment for the city. Dr. Shinde’s presentation was widely appreciated, reinforcing Navi Mumbai’s position as a model for sustainable urban water management.
