Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its crackdown on abandoned vehicles and unauthorized hawkers in an effort to maintain smooth traffic flow and pedestrian movement across the city. This initiative comes as part of NMMC’s ongoing efforts to uphold its top rank in the national cleanliness survey.
Abandoned vehicles not only obstruct walkways but also tarnish the city’s aesthetics. In previous drives, the NMMC had towed such vehicles, releasing them only after collecting fines from their owners. Now, under the directive of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, officials have been instructed to take stringent action against vehicles left unattended on roads, obstructing traffic, and contributing to cleanliness issues.
Under Sections 230 and 231 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1949, notices will be issued to owners of such vehicles, urging them to remove them voluntarily. Additionally, public announcements will be made to spread awareness. If vehicles remain abandoned after the notice period, they will be seized and towed to designated disposal sites.
Simultaneously, the NMMC is stepping up action against unauthorized hawkers who have encroached upon footpaths and roadsides. Strict measures will be enforced to remove such encroachments and maintain Navi Mumbai’s planned urban structure.
Dr. Shinde has urged citizens to cooperate in keeping the city clean and well-organized. With these measures, NMMC aims to enhance the city’s infrastructure, ensuring a better urban experience for residents and commuters.
