The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Thursday launched a decisive action against illegal construction in Airoli, demolishing a ground plus two-storey unauthorized structure despite repeated notices issued to the violator.
The property, located at Sector 3, Airoli, and owned by Anil Popat Patil, was built without obtaining mandatory permissions from NMMC. The civic body had earlier issued a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, urging the owner to remove the unauthorized construction voluntarily.
When no action was taken, NMMC proceeded with a partial demolition under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe, and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Bhagwat Doiphode.
The demolition drive was led by Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Sunil Kathole and Junior Engineer Sandeep Mhatre, supported by the encroachment police team and civic staff. The operation utilized a gas cutter, hammers, and a team of eight laborers to carry out the task efficiently.
Officials confirmed that the civic body will continue strict actions against unauthorized constructions across Navi Mumbai to maintain urban planning integrity and the rule of law.
