Navi Mumbai– In a decisive move against unauthorised constructions, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) demolished two illegal structures in Nerul and Kopar Khairane. The action was taken after property owners failed to comply with official notices issued by the municipal authorities.

Illegal Structure Demolished in Nerul

According to civic officials, they identified an unauthorised extension in a parking space at Plot No. 84, Sector 19, Nerul, owned by Parul Bharadwaj. The illegal construction was served a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, on March 11, 2025. However, as the owner failed to remove the structure within the deadline, the authorities proceeded with demolition.

The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner Jayant Jawadekar and Junior Engineer Sanjay Sontakke, was executed with a team of 10 laborers, police personnel, and municipal staff, using heavy machinery such as gas cutters, breakers, and hammers. A penalty of Rs 10,000 was also collected from the property owner.

Encroachment Removed in Kopar Khairane

A similar operation took place in Kopar Khairane, where an unauthorized construction at Room No. 733, S.S. Type, Sector 18, owned by Sadhana Rajendra Navale, was demolished. The NMMC had issued a notice on February 25, 2025, but the structure remained in place, leading to enforcement action.

Additionally, municipal teams cleared footpath encroachments near the Kopar Khairane railway station, relocating items belonging to homeless individuals.

Assistant Commissioner Vasant Mundavare and Junior Engineer Chandrakant Dhotre led the operation with support from police personnel and municipal staff, utilising electronic hammers, a pickup van, and gas cutters.

The NMMC has warned that strict action will continue against unauthorized constructions in Navi Mumbai, reinforcing its commitment to urban planning and public safety.
