On February 25, students from an NMMC-run school visited Imagica Adventure Park in Khopoli for an educational trip. During the excursion, a 13-year-old eighth-grade student from Ghansoli Municipal School passed away, sparking controversy. Parents and political groups have raised concerns about the planning and execution of the trip, questioning whether government regulations were followed. School excursions must adhere to specific guidelines regarding destinations, and critics argue that taking students to Imagica may have violated these rules. The fact that the trip occurred during ongoing annual examinations has only intensified scrutiny.
Initially, the municipal administration attributed the student's death to a heart attack. However, mounting public outrage prompted the commissioner to order a formal investigation.
In response to the controversy, the NMMC has canceled all upcoming school trips to Imagica with immediate effect. The findings of the inquiry committee will determine any further action against those responsible.
