Panvel MC Boosts Tax Recovery Efforts, Deploys More Teams
Panvel: The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a major crackdown on property tax defaulters, targeting factories, hotels, and lodges with pending dues. The corporation has begun seizing properties in Taloja MIDC and Kalamboli after issuing pre-seizure notices.
As per the municipal corporation's directive, defaulters were given a seven-day grace period after receiving notices. However, failure to pay despite multiple warnings has led to strict confiscation measures. So far, the PMC has issued 447 pre-seizure notices and 27 warrant notices across various zones, causing panic among defaulters. Officials have warned that the crackdown will intensify in the coming weeks.
To boost tax recovery, PMC has increased manpower under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Swaroop Kharge and Tax Superintendents Mahesh Gaikwad and Sunil Bhoir. Additional recovery teams will also be deployed soon. The corporation has also reminded property owners that unpaid taxes accumulate a 2% monthly penalty, further increasing their financial burden.
In a positive sign, the recent awareness campaign has encouraged more citizens to clear their dues, leading to a noticeable rise in tax payments. The PMC, which oversees 3.5 lakh registered properties, has also introduced digital payment options, including the 'PMC TAX APP' and an online portal (www.panvelmc.org), allowing citizens to pay conveniently without visiting municipal offices.
For any inquiries, property owners can contact the PMC's toll-free helpline at 1800-5320-340. Officials urge all defaulters to clear their dues immediately to avoid further legal action.
