PMC Cracks Down on Property Tax Defaulters, 27 Warrants Issued
Panvel: In a major step to address the growing issue of unpaid property taxes, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the process of issuing pre-seizure notices and warrants against establishments with outstanding tax dues. So far, 447 pre-seizure notices have been distributed, and the seizure process has already begun for major defaulters.
The PMC has assessed approximately 3.5 lakh properties across all four municipal wards for property tax, targeting defaulters with immediate action. The seizure team has issued 27 warrants, with one notable action against M/s Wallrec Modular Systems in Taloja.
Since the beginning of the current financial year in April, the Municipal Corporation has successfully collected Rs 326 crore in property tax revenue, highlighting the vital role of property tax in funding local government activities. To expedite tax collection, property tax officers, guided by Deputy Commissioner Swaroop Kharge, have been instructed to work diligently without breaks, ensuring that all property owners pay their dues on time.
Citizens are encouraged to pay their property taxes promptly to avoid penalties, as unpaid taxes accumulate a 2% interest charge per month. To facilitate easier payments, the PMC has launched the 'PMC TAX APP' for online payments, and residents can also visit the official website for more payment options. For any queries, citizens can contact the toll-free helpline at 1800-5320-340.
This crackdown is part of the PMC’s broader efforts to ensure financial accountability and continue the city’s development, with future legal actions, including property seizures and arrests, planned for non-compliant property owners.
