Panvel: With the intensity of summer increasing day by day, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued an advisory urging citizens to take necessary health precautions. Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale stressed the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding exposure to extreme heat.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anand Gosavi warned that temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming days. He advised citizens to minimize outdoor activities, especially during peak afternoon hours, unless necessary.
The civic body also issued health and safety guidelines and has recommended the following measures to protect against heat-related illnesses:
*Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water even if you do not feel thirsty. Carry drinking water while traveling.*Consume Electrolyte-Rich Fluids: Use Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) and drink homemade beverages like lemon water, buttermilk, lassi, and fresh fruit juices.*Eat Water-Rich Foods: Include watermelon, muskmelon, oranges, grapes, pineapple, cucumber, and other hydrating fruits and vegetables in your diet.*Dress Appropriately: Wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes and cover your head with a hat, cap, or scarf when stepping out.*Stay Indoors During Peak Heat Hours: Avoid going out between 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.*Keep Homes Cool: Close curtains and windows during the day and open them at night for ventilation.*Use Cooling Techniques: Take cold showers, use fans, spray water on the body, and soak feet in cool water to regulate body temperature.
Avoid the Following:*Going out in the sun unnecessarily, especially during the afternoon.*Walking barefoot on hot surfaces.*Cooking in extreme heat without proper ventilation.*Drinking alcohol, tea, coffee, or carbonated beverages that can cause dehydration.*Consuming stale or high-protein food that may lead to digestive issues.*Leaving children or pets inside parked vehicles, as temperatures inside can rise dangerously.
The Municipal Corporation urges citizens to take these precautions seriously to prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure a safe summer season.
