Panvel: The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has achieved a major milestone in its revenue collection efforts, reaching Rs 412 crore in property tax for the financial year 2024-25. This marks the first time since its establishment in 2016 that the corporation has crossed the Rs 400 crore threshold, setting a new record for property tax collections in the city.
Under the strategic direction of Commissioner and Administrator Mangesh Chitale, the Property Tax Department executed a focused and planned approach to achieve this record-breaking collection. The team, led by Deputy Commissioner Swaroop Kharge, carried out efficient measures that ensured a robust flow of revenue into the municipal treasury.
To facilitate the collection process, the department extended its services beyond regular working hours in March, keeping offices open even on weekends. Employees, led by Swaroop Kharge, Mahesh Gaikwad, and Sunil Bhoir, worked relentlessly to ensure taxpayers had ample opportunities to pay their dues. Additionally, the corporation took stern action against commercial property tax defaulters, deploying 13 teams across various zones for direct recovery.
PMC also focused on high-revenue areas such as CIDCO-transferred land, Panvel Industrial Estate, Marble Market, Jawahar Industrial Estate, and Taloja Industrial Estate, leading to significant improvements in collection. By issuing seizure and warrant notices to defaulters, the corporation's crackdown on overdue taxes helped boost revenue figures.
Daily collections during March ranged from Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore, with PMC surpassing last year's total of Rs 360 crore by March 19. This achievement came 10 days ahead of schedule, highlighting the effectiveness of the corporation's tax recovery strategy.
Panvel Municipal Corporation continues to prioritize transparency and responsiveness to taxpayer concerns, with a commitment to resolving grievances and making necessary adjustments to property tax bills. The corporation has urged residents to pay their property taxes promptly, ensuring continued growth and development for the city.
