Panvel Municipal Corporation Recovers Rs 86 Lakh from Mall and Rs4.69 Crore from Educational Institution

Panvel: In a decisive move to recover outstanding property taxes, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the issuance of pre-attachment notices and warrants to defaulters. As per the instructions of Commissioner Mangesh Chitle, the corporation's property tax department has already distributed 447 pre-attachment notices across all four wards and issued 27 warrants for non-payment of taxes.

The total number of properties under tax assessment in the municipal corporation's jurisdiction is approximately 3.5 lakh, with tax collections amounting to Rs314.5 crore since the start of the current financial year in April.

Deputy Commissioner of Property Tax, Assistant Commissioner Swaroop Kharge, and other officials have strongly urged property holders to settle their dues promptly to avoid further legal action. The corporation has warned that failure to pay the property tax could result in attachment and seizure of assets.

Under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, the PMC has the authority to seize both movable and immovable properties of defaulters and auction them to recover overdue taxes. As per the guidelines, attachment and seizure operations are underway in Kharghar, Navi Panvel, Kamothe, Kalamboli, and Panvel wards.

The corporation has also introduced the "PMC TAX APP" for easy online property tax payments, and citizens can pay taxes through the website. Those with questions can reach out to the toll-free number 1800-5320-340.

As part of these actions, the Kharghar recovery team, led by Prakash Phake, successfully collected Rs 86 lakh from a prominent mall and Rs 4.69 crore from a reputed educational institution in Kharghar.

The Municipal Corporation emphasizes that property tax is a critical funding source for public welfare and infrastructure projects, urging citizens to pay their dues to contribute to the development of the city.
