Panvel: If all goes as planned, residents of Panvel may not face water shortages this summer, as the Nhava Sheva Phase 3 Water Supply Project is expected to be completed by April 2025. Once finished, the project will more than double the current water supply, increasing from 100 MLD (million liters per day) to 228 MLD, ensuring a sustainable and uninterrupted supply to the region.
On Monday, MLA Prashant Thakur conducted a review meeting to assess the project's progress. He stressed the urgent need for timely completion to address existing water shortages and ensure a consistent and adequate supply for residents.
The review meeting, held at the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) office, was attended by Sub-Divisional Officer Pawan Chandak, Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, and officials from Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Senior police officers from Panvel Taluka, Panvel City, and Khandeshwar were also present.
During the discussion, Commissioner Mangesh Chitale was commended for his continuous efforts in monitoring the project's progress. Authorities instructed full cooperation between contractors and MJP to ensure smooth execution, with strict coordination among all departments to meet the April 2025 deadline.
Water scarcity was a major concern during the 2024 assembly elections, with voters demanding a permanent solution to the region’s inadequate supply. As a four-time consecutive MLA, Thakur had assured residents that he would address the issue comprehensively.
With officials and contractors pledging full commitment, the administration remains focused on delivering this ambitious project, which aims to secure Panvel’s water needs for the next 20 years.
