The Panvel City police have booked a man for abetment of suicide after his wife allegedly threw their eight-year-old daughter out of a 29th-floor window before jumping to herself death. Initially, the police registered the case as an accidental death, but later, based on a complaint filed by the woman’s mother, the charge was upgraded to abetment of suicide.

The shocking incident occurred on March 12, 2025, at the Aura Building, Marathon Society in Panvel. The deceased, identified as 38-year-old Maithili Dua, allegedly threw her daughter, Myra, from their apartment window before jumping herself. Both died on the spot.

Following the tragedy, Maithili’s mother, 63-year-old Nita Suhas Devraikar, filed a complaint against Ashish Dua, Maithili’s husband, alleging that he was an alcoholic who frequently harassed and physically assaulted her daughter. According to the complaint, Maithili had tried to leave Ashish multiple times over the years but reconciled with him in 2023, hoping for a better future for Myra. However, the alleged abuse continued.

The investigation revealed that Maithili had a love marriage with Ashish in 2011. At the time, Ashish was working in Mumbai, and the couple lived in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. After their marriage, Ashish quit his job to start his own business but reportedly developed a severe alcohol addiction. Maithili often confided in her mother about his behavior.

Their daughter, Myra, was born in 2016, but the situation did not improve. Ashish allegedly continued to harass Maithili, especially under the influence of alcohol. Despite repeated efforts by the family to intervene and counsel him, any improvement in his behavior was temporary.
