Young Swimming Sensation! 12-Year-Old Tanay Achieves Open-Water Record

Panvel– At just 12 years old, Tanay has achieved an extraordinary feat in open-water swimming, setting a new record for the fastest swim from the Gateway of India to Atal Setu. Covering the 17 km distance in an impressive 2 hours and 26 minutes, he now holds the title of the fastest swimmer on this route..

On the morning of March 2, 2025, Tanay dived into the Arabian Sea at 8:46 AM from the Gateway of India and reached Atal Setu at 11:12 AM, overcoming high waves, strong winds, and unpredictable weather conditions with remarkable resilience.

Currently a 6th-grade student at New Horizon Public School, Panvel, Tanay has already made his mark in competitive swimming. In 2024, he won a bronze medal at the Oceanman competition in Krabi, Thailand, an international open-water race. He also secured silver medals in multiple state-level competitions, including the Sunk Rock to Gateway swim, Periyar Kochi (Kerala), Vijaydurg, and Rankala (Kolhapur).

Open-water swimming is a demanding and daring sport, but Tanay’s determination, skill, and rigorous training have propelled him to the top. His mentor Rupali Repale has been instrumental in nurturing young swimming talent, helping Tanay achieve this milestone.

Tanay’s record-breaking performance has made him an inspiration for aspiring swimmers, proving that with dedication and perseverance, extraordinary achievements are possible.

“I made it possible because of rigorous training under renowned swimmers and coaches Rupali Repale and Aniruddha Mahadik at the Rupali Repale Swimming Academy, Olympic Sports Centre, Palava,” said Tanay.

His journey to success is marked by dedication, daily travel from Panvel to Palava, and relentless hard work since the age of six.
