Dia Mirza recalls ‘life-threatening’ childbirth experience says, wasn't allowed to hold my son for two months after his birth

Dia Mirza welcomed her first child, a baby boy, with Vaibhav Rekhi in May 2021. A few months after he was born, the actress shared the good news on social media.

Dia has recalled her pregnancy days and mentioned how the delivery was 'life threatening' for her and son Avyaan. The actress revealed that she was not allowed to hold Avyaan for two and a half months after he was born.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Dia Mirza opened up about the difficulties she faced during her pregnancy and childbirth. She said, 'It was really hard. I got sick. I had appendix surgery which had to be done while I was pregnant, in my fifth month. That must have led to some kind of bacterial infection spreading in the body. My placenta was hemorrhaging and the doctor said I have to pull your baby out otherwise I would have gone into sepsis.'

The actress further shared, 'It was life-threatening for both of us and within 36 hours of birth, the baby had to go through surgery. And then, three and a half months after he was born, he had to go through a second surgery. He was in the NICU right through that time. I wasn’t even allowed to hold him till two and a half months had passed after he was born.'

Dia Mirza got married to Vaibhav Rekhi on February 15, 2021. A few months after her marriage, the actress announced her pregnancy. And it was in July 2021, when Dia shared the good news about being blessed with a son, Avyaan.

On the work front, Dia was last seen in Anubhav Sinha's Thappad. The film also featured Taapsee Pannu in the lead role.

Dia will now be seen in Anubhav Sinha's Bheed, co-starring Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Pankaj Kapur and Ashutosh Rana. The movie is expected to hit screens on March 24.

In April 2014, she became engaged to her longtime business partner Sahil Sangha, and they were married on 18 October 2014 at his farmhouse in Chattarpur on the outskirts of Delhi.[
