The constituencies most likely to witness a fierce competition include Nandgaon, Nashik West, Deolali, Igatpuri, Chandwad, and Malegaon Centre. Discussions within these constituencies suggest that the outcome of these elections could be influenced by how much support rebel candidates and independents manage to garner. As a result, surprises in the final tally could be expected, particularly in these key areas.
Chandwad-Deola Assembly Constituency: BJP MLA from Mahayuti, Rahul Aher, is facing off against Congress district president and former MLA Shirish Kotwal, with BJP district president Keda Aher contesting as an independent rebel. In the past, voters in this constituency have been divided between Chandwad and Deola. However, this time, the outcome of the election will depend on whether voters from both talukas maintain their previous voting pattern or make a change, as the equation now includes two Aher candidates from Deola and Kotwal from Chandwad.
Nashik West Assembly Constituency: Sitting BJP MLA Seema Hire is up against Sudhakar Badgujar of the Uddhav Sena. However, Dinkar Patil, who switched from the BJP to join the MNS, and Dashrath Patil, who is fielded by the Swarajya Party, have added a new dimension, turning the contest into a four-way race. The outcome in this constituency will also depend on the influence of Khandeshi voters, the Maratha factor, the OBC factor, and how the vote share is divided among the candidates.
Malegaon Central: AIMIM candidate Mufti Mohammad Ismail, Congress' Ejaz Baig, Samajwadi Party's Nihal Ahmed's daughter Shan-e-Hind, and former mayor and MLA Asif Sheikh have filed their nominations as independents without the support of any party. The internal caste dynamics of the Muslim community and messages from influential religious leaders will play a major role in determining the result here.
Deolali Assembly constituency: The contest between Saroj Ahire of the Mahayuti and Yogesh Gholap of the Uddhav Sena from the MVA turned into a triangular fight after the Shinde Sena gave an AB form to Rajshree Ahirrao. While the Sena has not revealed the candidates' details at the moment, many factors will depend on how the equations shift. This additional nomination has created a headache for the Grand Alliance, and the MNS has also fielded a woman candidate, Mohini Jadhav. The outcome will depend on how many votes these two women candidates draw from each other.
Igatpuri Constituency: Igatpuri, a reserved tribal constituency, has witnessed significant political upheaval. Hiraman Khoskar, who switched from Congress to the NCP’s Ajit Pawar faction, is facing Congress’ Lucky Jadhav. Also in the fray are former Congress MLA Nirmala Gavit, running as an independent, and former MLA Kashinath Mengal, who switched from Shinde’s faction to the MNS. The tribal sub-groups and voting preferences will significantly impact the result, making predictions difficult for political analysts. These six constituencies are expected to generate a great deal of discussion, and surprising results are possible in these regions. Voters’ choices in these areas could play a decisive role in determining the overall outcome of the elections in Nashik district.
