On July 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3 took off on a GSLV-Mk3 rocket. After Chandrayaan-3 reached space, the Lander Imager camera mounted on its lander took pictures of the Earth.

The subsequent image features the Moon, taken by the Lander Horizontal Velocity Camera (LHVC) situated aboard the spacecraft, on August 6.

LHVC is manufactured by the Laboratory of Electro-Optics Systems (LEOS), Bangalore. The LHVC is actually mounted on the lower part of the lander, that camera takes pictures of the Earth.

So that the landing speed of the lander and hovering in the air like a helicopter can be known. Also, it can predict hazards.

Chandrayaan-3 successfully entered into the lunar orbit on Saturday (August 5).

On Wednesday, ISRO shared that the spacecraft is even closer to the lunar surface as it successfully underwent another orbit reduction maneuver. 'Even closer to the moon's surface. Chandrayaan-3's orbit is reduced to 174 km x 1437 km following a maneuver performed today,' ISRO said in a tweet.

Before it lands on the moon, Chandrayaan-3 will perform multiple de-orbiting manoeuvres to bring it closer to the lunar surface so that lander Vikram can land there.

According to Isro chief S Somanath, a lander propulsion module separation exercise will be taken up after that, soon after lander 'deboost', a process that slows down the craft. It will be followed by landing on lunar surface on August 23, he explained.
