India records 2,109 new Covid-19 cases; active cases drop to 21,406

According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, India recorded 2,109 fresh COVID-19 cases in a single day. Additionally, the number of active cases decreased from 22,742 to 21,406.

As per the data provided by the ministry, the cumulative number of COVID-19 infections has now reached 4.49 crore (4,49,74,909). The death toll has risen to 5,31,722, with eight individuals reported as fatalities. It is noteworthy that these eight deaths include individuals who were recently confirmed by Kerala to have succumbed to COVID-19.

According to the ministry's report, there are currently 21,406 active cases, accounting for 0.05 per cent of the total infections. The national recovery rate stands at an impressive 98.77 per cent, with a significant number of individuals, totalling 4,44,21,781, having successfully recovered from the disease. The COVID-19 case fatality rate is at 1.18 per cent, as stated by the ministry.

As per the information available on the ministry's website, over 2.2 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country since the commencement of the nationwide vaccination campaign.
