The lone railway carries most of the passengers and freight in the country. Indian Railways is also the largest employer. Indian Railways operates in more than 30 regions. As a result, the number of people working on the railways is in the millions.

There are posts like peon, waiter, sweeper, gardener, teacher, etc. According to government documents, a proposal was sent to cancel 16,000 posts in 16 railway zones between 2015-16 and 2020-21.

Thus, the zone has surrendered 56,888 posts. Another 15,495 posts will be surrendered. Northern Railway has canceled more than 9,000 posts. The Railways has canceled 4,677 posts. The Railways has 7524 posts and W.P. Railways has surrendered more than 5700 posts.

These posts will be abolished and the existing employees will be categorized into different sections. Also, these posts will not be filled anymore. This will result in huge savings in railway staff salaries and allowances. The purpose of such a study is to identify non-productive positions.

We don't want people carrying letters and documents from one place to another. "Our emphasis will now be on technical people, who will contribute to the development and work of the railways," an official said.

Rail recruitment has been declining in recent times. Because this work is being outsourced. A large portion of the revenue of the railways goes to the salaries and pensions of the employees. At present, more than half of the revenue earned by the railways is spent on staff.

Railways are ready to outsource all works except operation and maintenance. Cleaning, bedroll, and catering are privately owned. In the future, ticketing can be done by private hands.

In Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Mail-Express train generators, electrical-mechanical technicians, trainer assistants, railway cleaners, etc. have been given on contract.
