A colonel, a major and three jawans were killed in a clash between security forces and militants at Handwada in Kashmir that lasted for about 13 hours.

Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, 44, was commanding a battalion of 21 National Rifles. Commander Major Anuj Sood (30), Nayak Rajesh Kumar (29), Lance Nayak Dinesh Singh (24) and Jammu and Kashmir Sub-Inspector of Police Sagir Pathan alias Qazi (41) were arrested on Saturday evening.
