A day ahead of the seventh and last phase of polling in the country, Goa BJP has written to the Election Commission (EC) claiming that Congress violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

"We seek your immediate intervention in the matter of the ongoing press conference orgzed by Indian National Congress at its Panaji Goa headquarters," read the letter written by BJP state general secretary Sadanand Shet Tanavade to Goa's Chief Electoral Officer.

"When the campaign is officially over, the Congress party seems to be desperately trying to influence the voters by spreading rumours and falsehood through its repetitive rhetoric," it mentioned.

The BJP demanded "immediate action" against Congress for allegedly violating MCC and also sought direction to media persons not to print or telecast the press conference

The seventh and final phase on May 19 will cover 13 seats in Uttar Pradesh, all 13 in Punjab, nine in West Bengal, eight each in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, all four constituencies in Himachal Pradesh, three in Jharkhand and the lone seat of Chandigarh. A total of 918 candidates are in the fray to test their destiny in the last phase.

Goa went to polls during the third phase on April 23 for its 2 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Results will be declared on May 23
